Before the IAAF world championships, Jamaica's Usain Bolt showed American Sanya Richards how to do some of his celebration dances. Jeremy Abbott was challenged late by Daisuke Takahashi of Japan but the American held on for his first Grand Prix title of the season by winning Skate Canada. Abbott wasn't the day's only winner as Germany's Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy claimed the pairs crown -- Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir of Canada kept their lead after the original dance.

Compatriot Chad Hedrick finished fourth as defending Olympic champion Enrico Fabris was fifth. Martina Sablikova won her second 5000m World Cup title of the season.
