Stiegler out for the season
U.S. Alpine racer Resi Stiegler will be out for the rest of the season following a training run crash on Thursday at Copper Mountain, Colo. The 24-year-old hooked a gate at the bottom of Copper's giant slalom course and suffered a serious complex injury to her left leg, which required surgery and will keep her from skiing for the rest of the season.

Skate Canada: What to expect
Figure skating's Grand Prix series this weekend heads north to Kitchener, Canada, where a number of hopefuls will be looking to shine ahead of December's final in Tokyo and the upcoming U.S. Nationals. One skater to watch is 2007 junior champ Caroline Zhang (above), who has some work to do to catch up to the likes of Rachael Flatt and Ashley Wagner.
Can Brazil be stopped?
The field is set. Each of the 32 spots in the 2010 World Cup has been assigned, but is there a nation that can contend with Brazil? Many think the time has come for a country like Spain to win its first World Cup, or hope an African nation can hoist the trophy at home. But looking ahead to next summer in South Africa, all signs point to Brazil winning a sixth title.
