• Kessy/Ross close FIVB season with gold Posted Nov 8 7:03a ET By International Volleyball Federation The Americans missed on a chance to sweep an FIVB podium for the third time in history, but the U.S. did claim gold and silver at the last event of the season. Jen Kessy and April Ross, the reigning world champions, defeated Angie Akers and Tyra Turner for the title in Thailand, while Lauren Fendrick and Ashley Ivy were upset in the bronze medal match by Russia.

The Americans advanced to the final, but then were upset by the Swiss pair of Simone Kuhn and Nadine Zumkehr in three games. Angie Akers and Tyra Turner of the U.S. won bronze.

But at the urging of players like Olympic gold medalists Kerri Walsh and Todd Rogers, the governing body now aims to better represent beach interests.
