Lake Louise letdown

By Bode Miller

BEAVER CREEK, Colo. -- Lake Louise was similar to last year with tough weather. That makes the race pretty challenging because it's not a very technical hill so to win there, you gotta do a lot of things right and not have any bad luck. But it was another tough weekend. I was second in the last downhill training run. I was feeling pretty good and felt like I had a pretty good handle on the course. Then it snowed overnight and that changes everything. The light was pretty bad on race day. There was blowing wind -- I couldn't see anything.

It was a bummer to go from being second in the last training run to 29th on race day. I just had no chance of skiing the way I wanted to. Super-G was similar. The guys with the early start numbers had a great chance at it, then as the start numbers got later and later, the conditions got worse and the guys at the top of the course lost a lot of time. It was tough. I ended up pushing too hard in the super-G trying to make up time cause I knew I was going to be slow and I ended up making a big mistake. But it's just one of those things. I've raced enough races to know there are just certain things you can't control. You just got to go out there and hammer. But it is frustrating when I've been skiing well -- I just haven't had a chance to really do it in a race yet.

Now I'm in Beaver Creek getting ready for the weekend. We have two downhill training runs coming up, then it's super combined on Friday, downhill on Saturday and GS on Sunday. It's a busy week for me with lots of sponsorship stuff and obligations and family in town. I'm hoping for good weather. If we have good conditions, I'm pretty comfortable. If there's weather and the snow comes in, all you can do is be ready.
