According to The Korea Times, August 7 is officially "Yu-Na Day" in Los Angeles, California.
Kim will be in L.A. to receive the "Proud Korean Award."
It may seem odd that a figure skater from South Korea, who lives and trains in Toronto, is awarded her own day in Los Angeles.
However, Kim won her first world title in L.A. and the city has the largest Koreatown with a population over 120,000.
The award is presented to Korean Americans who have made Koreans proud, and while Kim is not Korean American, her accomplishments over the past several years have certainly made Koreans proud.
"Queen Yu-Na" will meet Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and donate a pair of skates to be kept at City Hall.
