The Teodosic triple. Milos Teodosic was not the most memorable participant in the Serbia-Greece melee last month (that distinction would belong to chair-throwing teammate Nenad Krstic). However, Teodosic was, along with Krstic, one of two Serbian players to be suspended from early action at the World Championship due to his role in the brawl, which is to say that when it comes time to fight, he is not shy. He's also not shy when it comes to hoisting important threes. Just 1-for-7 from outside until the closing seconds against Spain - leaving him in a 4-for-19 three-point slump and just 10-for-34 (29.4%) in the tournament - Teodosic buried a deep three with 3.1 seconds left to knock out the defending world champs. Most hoops aficionados would call that shot a dagger. Krstic would likely refer to it as a chair.
Turkey, no nonsense. The host nation did not come into this tournament as the most heralded of contenders, but Turkey became the first team to 7-0 with a blowout 95-68 win over Slovenia on Wednesday, led by 19 points from facemask-appreciating Milwaukee Buck Ersan Ilyasova. Turkey has now won its seven games by an average margin of 21.9 points (including 30.7 in its last three), and with Spain suddenly eliminated from its side of the bracket, the likelihood of a U.S.-Turkey gold medal game just increased considerably. The U.S. would enter that game as the favorite, but the host nation would enter extremely fired up.
And speaking things to look forward to... David Blatt, the American-born coach of Russia, is taking the Soviet side in the controversial 1972 Olympic title game. Mike Krzyzewski disagrees, and apparently doesn't even think of Blatt as an American. On Thursday, Blatt's Russia and Coach K's Team USA face off in the quarterfinals, 38 years to the day after that Munich Olympic gold medal game. Does that sound like something you might be interested in?
