Alpine skier Scott Macartney blogs about life on the slopes for UniversalSports.com.
Hello all! I have had a few adventures since my last post. It is my last week at home, so I have been rushing to do a few things before the season gets underway. I had a Halloween party at my house on Saturday, which was a blast. It was a costume and "pong" themed party and I had a good turnout- bunch of friends from around the Seattle area. I dressed as a Leprechaun complete with green face paint, big creepy ears and red contacts that I had saved from when we were testing them for Nike Vision down in Chile. The effect was "unsettling," apparently even after seeing me a few times. Katie was a very complementary "rainbow with a pot of gold,", even to a slightly evil leprechaun. There were some other great costumes as well -- the cast of The Office made an appearance, there was a Cat in the Hat and a Box covered in Hair ( you can figure that one out.) Even my parents showed up, fully dressed, first ones there, right on time. They came as a Witch and a Biker, although since my dad does ride motorcycles, it wasn't too much of a stretch, but he did overdo it enough to make it work well. All in all it was a great time and I didn't get any noise complaints, so I know I can push it harder next time.
After the party I worked on getting my place ready for the winter, which included finding some new roommates to live in the house. I had asked all my friends, so I resorted to Craigslist, which really works well but tends to bring in a diverse crowd, to put it nicely. Craigslist people are also notoriously flaky. I had a guy come over and check the place out, he liked the look of the room, we talked shop about the price, move in date, etc. had a few more conversations over the phone and e- mail.
Finally he said that he wanted the room and I replied right away that it was his. This was right before my party, so I wasn't paying close attention to how much time had passed. Three days later (after I had pulled the ad down assuming he was in) he emails me saying that he a friend of his had a room that just came up... or something. I was not impressed. I think I found two people to fill the spots... so stay tuned next week and I will let you know how the search ends.
Oh... and I will be skiing next week, so I will have something more exciting to talk about too.
