Alpine skier Scott Macartney blogs about life on the slopes for UniversalSports.com.
I am headed up to Whistler to watch my teammates kick some butt! I will be cheering them on and doing various things for the USOC and the U.S. Ski Team foundation. I am sure to be busy up there and my schedule is filling up fast!
Wanted to give everyone a look at my return to Kitzbuehel. I celebrated my birthday there with the traditional pie-ing from my teammates. The course was its usual crazy and intimidating self, the only thing that was really mellow was the last jump where I had some difficulty two years ago. They were obviously nervous about making that jump particularly safe after what happened to me two years ago and what happened to Albrecht last year. We were still going 140kph into the jump, but just floating a few feet off the ground and closely following the contour of the hill.
The first run down I was as nervous as I have been for any World Cup and was glad to get it out of the way. On race day I had some good speeds, some good sections but had enough mistakes to keep me out of the 30.
Great to get back on that horse though!
Looking forward to the Olympics ... even if it is just as a spectator. Go, Team USA!
