Hays out with bad hamstring
Team USA will be without driver Todd Hays when the bobsled World Cup series continues in Lake Placid this weekend. Hays, who won silver at last week's opener in Park City, is suffering from a strained hamstring and will be replaced by Mike Kohn. Hays should be back in time for the early-December stop in Cesana Pariol, Italy.
Rush surges to narrow victory
Canada's Lyndon Rush edged out Latvia's Janis Minins by 0.02 seconds to take the opening four-man World Cup bobsled race in Park City. American driver Todd Hays, who won the two-man event a day earlier, posted the fastest first-run time but slipped to sixth overall after injuring his hamstring at the start of his second run.
Hays wins silver in nostalgic run
The U.S. men opened the bobsled season in style Friday, placing two sleds in the top five in the two-man event in Park City. Todd Hays, 40, emerged from retirement to take silver, a feat he accomplished on the same track at the 2002 Olympics. Steven Holcomb, a favorite for the four-man event, just missed the podium in fourth place overall.
Martini off to fast start
Germany's Cathleen Martini, who won last year's season-ending World Cup race on the Olympic track in Park City, has picked up where she left off, taking Friday's women's bobsled opener by 0.20 seconds ahead of compatriot Sandra Kiriasis. The U.S. put three sleds in the top nine, led by Erin Pac and teammate Michelle Rzepka in third.
