Australia shines on home track
China's Guo Shang outgunned Australia's Anna Meares for the women's sprint title at the World Cup opener last month in Manchester, but Meares got her revenge this week, topping Guo in Melbourne at the season's second Cup stop. Cameron Meyers won the men's 30k points race to give the Aussies two golds on Day 1.
Contador shows Astana the love
After brief flirtations with Caisse d'Epargne and Quick Step, Alberto Contador will instead remain wedded to Astana -- for one more season, at least. But the Spanish rider's return is contingent on the Kazakh team receiving its ProTour license and keeping the squad free of dopers. A decision on the team's license renewal is expected this week.
Rebellin turns to CAS
Italy's Davide Rebellin, who won silver in the Olympic road race in Beijing last summer and subsequently had his medal declared invalid after a positive doping test in April, plans to take his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The Italian Olympic Committee is also looking to recoup prize money awarded to the rider.
Evans to peloton: Beware of Lance
Recently crowned world road race champion Cadel Evans advised the ProTour to expect a "bigger and more dangerous" Lance Armstrong next season. "We'll see Armstrong at another level in 2010," the BMC rider said Wednesday during a promotional tour in Australia, where the two riders will kick off the new season at January's Tour Down Under.

The International Cycling Union announced the inaugural World Cup circuit of three events for para-cyclists will be held between May and July in Correze, France; Segovia, Spain; and Baie-Comeau, Canada.
