World Series concludes in Mexico
What was scheduled to be a three-city tour ended up being a two-stop circuit for divers in the FINA/LI-NING Diving World Series 2010, thanks to the volcanic ash cloud above Europe. The contingent was grounded in Mexico, so the solution was to stay in Veracruz and hold the finale there. China dominated again; see results and on-demand video from the series inside.
Americans secure berths to Singapore
Two divers -- Michael Hixon and Annika Lenz -- will represent the U.S. at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore this summer. The pair qualified for the Games at a trials meet in Mexico last month, where they each earned bronze medals: Hixon in the boys 3m springboard, Lenz in the girls 10m platform. The Olympics are scheduled for Aug. 14-26.
Four silver medals? Not too shabby
After failing to win a single medal at the Beijing Olympics, the U.S. diving team rebounded in less than a year to win four silvers at the 2009 FINA World Championships in Rome. It was the country's best performance at a diving world championships since 1991, and Alan Abrahamson says what happened in Italy was no fluke. "We really are pretty good," Thomas Finchum said.
