Benshoof to race despite back injury
American Tony Benshoof, who was fourth in the men's singles event at the 2006 Torino Games, wrote on his Twitter feed that he will have his back examined Friday -- just one day before he's scheduled to slide on the track in Calgary at luge's first men's World Cup event of the Olympic season.
Hamlin no longer an unknown
World champion American slider Erin Hamlin stunned the luge world when she ended Germany's 99-race winning streak at the '09 World Championships in Lake Placid in February. Now, the pressure is on as she sets out to defend her title starting at the World Cup season opener in Calgary this week.
Making the grade
The United States has finalized its team for the 2009-10 luge World Cup season, which begins this week in Calgary. Reigning world champ Erin Hamlin and 17-year-old Kate Hansen highlight the women's singles side. Olympic veteran Tony Benshoof returns for the men's singles team, and Mark Grimmette and Brian Martin will lead the doubles squad.
Season's greetings
