
The names of eighteen National Rowing Hall of Fame
inductees were unveiled Saturday, October 17 at the National Team
Alumni Reception at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass.
Members of the 2004 Olympic men’s eight that won gold in Athens were inducted, including coxswain Peter Cipollone, Bryan Volpenhein, Beau Hoopman, Daniel Beery, Matthew Deakin, Joseph Hansen, Chris Ahrens, Wyatt Allen and Jason Read. In addition, University of California – Berkeley Men’s Head Coach and former USRowing Men’s Head Coach Mike Teti was inducted.
Seven individual athletes were honored including two-time Olympic medalists Karen Kraft Rigsby, Missy Schwen Ryan and Anne Marden, world champion Amy Fuller, two-time Olympic silver medalist Tom Bohrer, the late Andy Sudduth, a two-time Olympian and silver medalist in the men’s eight and nine-time U.S. national team sculler Jim Dietz.
In addition, Anita DeFrantz was
inducted as a Patron in recognition of extraordinary service to the
sport of rowing. A bronze medalist in the women’s eight at the 1976
Olympic Games, DeFrantz is a member of the International Olympic
Committee and Development Commission Chair of FISA.
