
MOSCOW (Reuters) -- Australia's Marieke Guehrer broke the 50m backstroke short course world record with a time of 26.17 seconds at a World Cup meet on Friday.
She bettered the previous mark of 26.23 set by Croatia's Sanja Jovanovic in December 2008.
Elsewhere, Hungarian Evelyn Verraszto clocked in at 2:06.01 to set a world record in the women's 200m intermediate medley. She broke the mark of 2:06.13 set by Olympic and world champion Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe at the 2008 World Short Course Championships in Manchester, England.
Moscow ia hosting the second leg of the FINA World Cup on Friday and Saturday before Stockholm stages the next leg on Nov. 10-11.
