Anderson, Maegert-Kohli capture Copper PGS wins

Copper, Colo. -- The Race to the Cup finished Friday in Copper with Jasey Jay Anderson of Canada and Fraenzi Maegert-Kohli of Switzerland topping the podiums.

Maegert-Kohli was followed in the women's race by American Lindsay Lloyd, who was second and Alexa Loo of Canada rounding out the podium in third.

Lloyd struggled through a day of adversity, including two torn ligaments in her thumb, to finish the day with a strong result.

"I was super stoked for the race. I qualified in sixth for the race which was rather disappointing," said Lloyd. "But I kept competing and between the injury and the weather I was able to shed any nervousness I had and finish the day with a great result."

The other U.S. women that competed were Michelle Gorgone, who ended the day in fifth, while Lynn Ott finished the day in ninth and Madelin Wiencke took 10th.

On the men's side Anderson took top honors with Matthew Morison of Canada finishing the day in second followed by Nevin Galmarini of Switzerland taking third. U.S. snowboarding's Justin Reiter just missed the podium in fourth.

Other U.S. men in action were Chris Klug, who took seventh in the event, Tyler Jewell finishing in ninth and Adam Smith closing out the day in 10th.

Next up for the athletes is the World Cup in Limone Piemonte, Italy. Competition begins on Dec. 6 and the event is the first Olympic qualifier of the year for alpine snowboarding.

The Race to the Cup will pick back up Dec. 11-12 in Steamboat Springs, CO for the second leg of the series.
