As one Norwegian faltered, another picked up his slack.

Ronny Andre Hafsaas won his first career World Cup race by taking the men's 15km individual in Beitostoelen, Norway. The 24-year-old turned in a time of 34:42.1 to top France's Vincent Vittoz by 0.2 seconds. Matti Heikkinen of Finland finished in third, and Hafsaas' compatriot Petter Northug took fourth.

Norway's Lars Berger had held the lead from the 6.2km mark to the 12.5km checkpoint but faltered down the stretch, finishing in 13th place.

Kris Freeman had the highest finish for the Americans, placing 22nd overall and 50.0 seconds behind Hafsaas.
