HAMAR, Norway -- Shani Davis' perfection in the 1500m continued in Hamar with another convincing win.
The American turned in his fastest World Cup time of the season, a 1:44.27 to clinch his third straight World Cup win. In each of his 1500m wins, Davis has finished more than a second ahead of the field.
Compatriot Chad Hedrick finished fourth while defending Olympic champion Enrico Fabris was fifth.
Canada's Lucas Makowsky won the silver medal, marking his first career individual World Cup medal. He crossed the line in one minute 45.40 seconds, shaving two-tenths of a second off his personal best time in the 1500m distance. Havard Bokko of Norway was third in 1:45.61.
To put Davis' feat in perspective, at the 2006 Torino Games less than a second separated places one through six. The last time a skater won the 1500m at the Olympics by more than a second was 1980, when another well-known American, Eric Heiden, won his fourth of a record five gold medals.
American Trevor Marsicano, silver medalist in the 1500m at the 2009 Worlds, is recovering from the flu, which had derailed his training. His struggles this season continued as he finished 10th.
On the women's side, Martina Sablikova of the Czech Republic won the 5000m. Sablikova is the reigning world champion in that event, and has won the 3000m/5000m combined World Cup title the past three seasons.
Shani Davis and Christine Nesbitt are among the skaters to watch in Vancouver.
