Judging by what's taken place the last five-plus weeks, it appears that Jessica Hardy is officially back.
The Hardy of the 2005-07 era, the one who captured five world championships medals (gold, four silver), has returned to the pool.
She was suspended for one year after a positive doping test at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials, and made her official return at the U.S. Open National Championships in August.
Since then, she's been on a fast track to success.
Hardy set three world records during that August meet, and made a splash on the 2009 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup circuit, a run that included four world-record swims en route to taking the overall women's title and a $100,000 first-place check.
Hardy tallied 210 points during the five-week, five-meet series, which ended last weekend in Singapore. Ten points behind was second-place Theresa Alshammar of Sweden.
All of Hardy's world records on the World Cup tour were in the 50m breaststroke, but that's not all she did to earn points. The 22-year-old registered five other victories and a few more top-three finishes.
Here is a breakdown of Hardy's victories in Durban, Moscow, Stockholm, Berlin and Singapore:
| Durban | Moscow | Stockholm | Berlin | Singapore |
| 100m breast: 1:04.15 50m breast: 29.45 *WR 100m IM: 59.93 | 100m breast: 1:03.75 50m breast: 29.36 *WR | 50m breast: 29.29 (set a WR in prelims) | 50m breast: 28.80 *WR | 50m breast: 29.09 |
Thanks to a stacked roster and some WRs, the U.S. won the 2009 Duel in the Pool.
