
U.S. speed skater Shani Davis won the 1000m race at the World Cup finals in Heerenveen, Netherlands on Sunday.
The victory comes two days after Davis clinched the overall 1500m season title, and he grabbed the 1000m crown last weekend after winning the event in Erfurt, Germany.
Davis finished Sunday's race in 1 minute, 8.89 seconds, slightly faster than the Netherlands' Stefan Groothuis (1:09.07) and Mark Tuitert (1:09.13). Tuitert beat Davis in the 1500m at the Vancouver Olympics last month.
Davis finished the World Cup season with 750 points in the 1000m and 630 in the 1500m. He won gold and silver medals in Vancouver.
In other action on Sunday, Russian Yekaterina Shikhova claimed the women's 1000m title after crossing the finish line in 1:16.25. The Netherlands' Annette Gerritsen (1:16.35) and Natasja Bruintjes (1:16.60) rounded out the top three. Of the four Americans in the field, Jennifer Rodriguez (sixth) and Heather Richardson (ninth) led the way.
Canadian Christine Nesbitt was seventh in Sunday's race, but she earned enough points to claim the season title. Norway (men) and Canada (women) and were victorious in the team pursuits, and each won their respective season titles.
