Four-time Olympic luger makes history
After seeing Scott Hamilton win figure skating gold at the 1984 Olympics, 21-year-old Ruben Gonzalez knew at that moment he wanted to become an Olympian. Twenty-six years later, Gonzalez is set to compete at his fourth Olympics in four decades -- he's the only winter athlete to accomplish that feat. The luger from Argentina recently told his story.
Italy has high hopes for Vancouver
Italy's 100-plus strong delegation for the Vancouver Olympics, led by cross-country skier Giorgio Di Centa, received an official send-off from president Giorgio Napolitano on Monday that included a tough challenge. Napolitano and foreign minister Franco Frattini asked the Azzurri to match the 11-medal haul from the team's home games in Turin four years ago.
USOC comes full circle with Blackmun pick
After a lengthy search, the United States Olympic Committee has settled on Scott Blackmun to be its new chief executive officer, replacing Stephanie Streeter. Olympic insider Alan Abrahamson writes that after a series of bungled hires, the USOC could not have done better than bringing its former interim leader back into the fold.
