World Cup rewind: Who did what?
Apolo Ohno and Katherine Reutter are the top two U.S. skaters heading into the Vancouver Olympics, as evidenced by their performances on the ISU World Cup circuit. With the four-meet series now complete, their attention turns to the upcoming Games. We break down how the 10 Vancouver-bound skaters fared in the four meets.
Ohno is golden in Marquette
A day after his runner-up finish in the 1500m, Apolo Ohno skated his way to a gold medal on Sunday. Ohno glided to the 1000m victory on the last day of the final ISU World Cup event in Marquette, edging South Korean Lee Jung-Su and Canadian Charles Hamelin at the line. Ohno also won silver with the men's relay, and Katherine Reutter was second in the women's 1000m.
On Saturday, Ohno is second best
At the U.S. Olympic Trials in September, the shortlist of skaters bound for Vancouver was drawn up. This weekend, the final ISU World Cup event is taking place in Marquette, Mich., the results of which will be used to shore up the Vancouver squad. Apolo Ohno (silver, 1500m) was the only American to earn a medal Saturday. Full coverage inside.
Celski: I'll be healthy for Vancouver
J.R. Celski has been rehabbing with Dr. Eric Heiden since cutting his left leg with his right skate at the U.S. Trials on Sept. 12. Would Heiden, who won five speed skating gold medals at the 1980 Games, be able to mold Celski back into racing condition? Celski said on Wednesday that he'll resume skating in two weeks and that he'll be ready for Vancouver.
