Pearce returns home to Vermont
Kevin Pearce no longer focuses on pushing envelopes inside the halfpipe or winning gold medals at the Olympics. Instead, he works on walking with less effort, seeing clearly, maybe even someday getting back on that snowboard -- simply for an easy ride down the mountain. The former Olympic hopeful is now home after four months in the hospital.
The snowboarding season that was
During an Olympic year, stellar snowboarding feats are bound to go down. Shaun White provided plenty, prior to and during the Olympics, and none more profound than introducing the Double Cork Era. Also highlighting the season were Australians climbing the ranks, a rivalry being born in women's snowboard cross, and an influential Canadian calling it a career.
Kokubo, Clark rule Stratton halfpipe
Iouri Podladtchikov pulled off Shaun White’s signature move, the double McTwist 1260, twice during the U.S. Open snowboarding championship but still came up short in the halfpipe competition. Podladtchikov finished third behind Kazuhiro Kokubo of Japan (first) and Louie Vito of the U.S. (second). American Kelly Clark won the women's competition.
Vaultier, Olafsen win La Molina finale
The overall snowboard cross World Cup titles were already decided heading into the final race in Spain, but there was no holding back with men's champion Pierre Vaultier of France, who picked up his fifth win of the season. Norway's Helene Olafsen won the women's race, but finished second in the final standings to Canada's Maelle Ricker, the Olympic champion.

Swimming World Cup kicks off in Rio
With the big summer meets now in the rearview mirror, swimming takes a break for a few months, right? Wrong. The seven-meet FINA World Cup kicks off below the equator in Rio de Janeiro this weekend. Finals sessions will be broadcast live on UniversalSports.com beginning at 9 a.m. ET Saturday and Sunday.
