U.S. kept off top podium step in Copper
The second of two parallel giant slalom events in Copper Mountain saw Jasey Jay Anderson of Canada and Fraenzi Maegert-Kohli of Switzerland leave with the wins. American Lindsay Lloyd finished second for the women, ahead of Canada's Alexa Loo. On the men's side, Matthew Morrison of Canada was runner-up and Nevin Galmarini of Switzerland took third.
Gimpl gets it done again
Two big air World Cup events down, two gold medals for Austria's Stefan Gimpl. The 30-year-old won his fourth consecutive World Cup event and is the immediate favorite to capture the overall season crown for a second year in a row. He won a close competition in Barcelona, where riders showcased their skills in Estadio Olimpico, home of the 1992 Summer Games.
Bright, Kokubo win Swiss halfpipe
Australia's Torah Bright captured gold in Switzerland at the season's second World Cup halfpipe event, strengthening her position as an Olympic medal contender. On the men's side, Japan's Kazuhiro Kokubo won gold, his second World Cup medal in as many events. Qualifying for the final was Kevin Pearce of the U.S., but he struggled and finished in 12th place.
Jumping ahead of the pack
The first of five World Cup races used to select the U.S. Olympic snowboard cross team went well for two men's riders: Seth Wescott, who took second in Argentina, and Graham Watanabe, who placed third. France's Pierre Vaultier won the men's race while Maelle Ricker of Canada won the women's. American Lindsey Jacobellis crashed out in the first round.
